Licensing

A contractual arrangement whereby an authorized government entity gives permission for a firm to operate. For example, an environmental protection agency may license a generator, or a utility commission may monitor a license issued by a ministry. Also, a private firm may license another to use a patent, utilize a brand, or sell through particular retail channels.
