Distributed Generation

Sources of electricity from many small energy suppliers rather than centralized large scale production site connected to a transmission grid. Such a system can play a useful energy supply role in areas with unreliable or no electricity or where multiple sources of electricity are available from small suppliers. Distributed generation can provide electricity at local level, reducing line losses. It also requires that the distribution grid be able to adjust to changes in output by small scale producers.
